It takes anywhere from 12 to 18 months to obtain a United States trademark registration.
After the application is filed, the first examination or office action is typically issued after about 5 or 6 months (based on the caseload of the trademark office).
Depending on the effectiveness of the amendments or arguments necessary to respond to the office action, a second office action may issue which may take a few more months.
If all the issues and refusals in the office actions are overcome, the application will proceed toward publication which takes an additional 1 to 2 months.
After publication, with no oppositions to the application by third parties, the application will proceed towards a notice of allowance and registration. This can take up to 3 or more months.
It is important to keep in mind that as soon as the application is filed, it is considered pending and you will obtain an application number or serial number.
This application number or serial number is particularly important for Amazon Brand Registry or Amazon Brands Registry.
